Saudi Arabia/Region: Riyadh tops the global list of arms importers

Saudi Arabia has retained its position as the world’s largest importer of arms, according to data released earlier this month by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (Sipri) covering the period 2015-19. The kingdom accounted for 12% of all arms transfers around the world over those years, as was the case in the previous edition of the report covering 2014-18.The United States supplied 73% of Saudi imports, followed in importance by the UK with 13% and France with 4%. GSN Issue 1,099, 19 March 2020.
