Many of the senior figures in the new UK government have at least some experience of Iran and the Arab Gulf countries. GSN has rounded up some of the formally reported contacts. Informally, what is traditionally a very close relationship – particularly with the Gulf monarchies – is likely to be reflected in many more ties.New chancellor of the Exchequer Sajid Javid visited Iran during his 20-year banking career, before he entered politics, during which time he concentrated on emerging markets first for Chase Manhattan and then Deutsche Bank.
