Regional leaders’ efforts to reshape their key strategic industries was apparent in Qatar Petroleum (QP)’s announcement on 30 March it is to end its Qatargas 1 (QG1) joint venture with ExxonMobil and Total (both 10%), Marubeni and Mitsui (7.5%) as of 1 January 2022, once the 25-year agreements expire. The move to end foreign shareholdings in Qatar’s original LNG project is significant, reflecting Doha’s changing priorities and capabilities.
