Saudi Arabia had held high hopes that its chairmanship of the 2020 Group of 20 (G20) summit would be a catalyst for heightening the kingdom’s profile on the world stage, making a contribution to Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman (MBS)’s international rehabilitation after he became burdened by alleged responsibility for the 2018 murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul.
