Saudi Arabia is taking a wide range of measures to control a potential rift with the United States, as President Joe Biden’s administration moves forward with its undertaking to review the US-Saudi relationship in the light of domestic human rights abuses, the Yemen war and Washington’s desire to create a new understanding with Iran over its nuclear and missile policy. At the heart of Riyadh’s approach is its resolve to protect the position of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman (MBS). GSN understands the kingdom is prepared to make radical concessions in almost every other area to ensure continued US support for (or at least tacit acceptance of) MBS.
