Yemen: Socotra and Mahra unite in response to external forces

Abdullah Bin Essa Al-Afar appears to have lost his undisputed position as titular head of the General Council of the People of Al-Mahra and Socotra. The pretender to the former Sultanate of Mahra and Socotra has been displaced by his relative Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al-Afrar. The move came after Sultan Abdullah was seen to be too supportive of the UAE-sponsored takeover of Socotra last month, to the detriment of local interests and self-governance.
