UAE: Fujairah family tree

Issue 1000 - 18 Sep 2015
The Al-Sharqi come from the Hafaitat section of the vast Sharqiyin tribe, one of the largest in the UAE. Fujairah is isolated due to its geography (it is the only emirate on the Gulf of Oman) and was originally dominated by the Al-Qawasim of Sharjah and Ras Al-Khaimah. Hamad Bin Abdullah Bin Saif became Fujairah town’s chief in the 1870s, and established its independence from Al-Qasimi rule. His son Mohammed (who ruled until 1974) was recognised by the British when their territory became an emirate in 1952.
