With Qatar facing censure from fellow members of the Gulf Co-operation Council (see page 6), Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani has scheduled several visits to countries in the wider region. On 30 March, he made a one-day visit to Jordan to hold talks with King Abdullah II. He was greeted at Marka Airport by the king and Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein, and welcomed with a guard of honour; the emir said the visit would provide an opportunity “to have consultations on major Arab and Islamic issues, especially at this critical stage when the Arab nation is facing challenges”.
