Iran: New UK ambassador appointed to Tehran

Simon Shercliff has been named as the UK’s new ambassador to Iran and will take over from Rob Macaire in August. Shercliff has previously served as ambassador to Yemen from 2017-18 and as national security director at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 2018-21. His arrival in Tehran will coincide with President-elect Ibrahim Raeisi taking office, following his election victory in June.
