Kuwait: Corruption crackdown continues as ex-minister receives jail term

Three senior figures at the Ministry of Health, including former minister Ali Al-Obaidi, have been found guilty of embezzlement and sentenced to seven years imprisonment. It is the first time in Kuwaiti history that a former minister has been sentenced to jail for such offences.Also convicted were former undersecretary Khalid Al-Sahlawi and former assistant undersecretary Mahmoud Al-Abdulhadi, as well as a US firm’s purchasing agent. The Ministerial Prosecution Inquiry Committee, (a special court that handles cases against ministers) found that all of them had embezzled state funds.
