With parliament sidelined for up to four years, the government could push through some long-delayed reforms to the economy, but there has been little sign of meaningful policy initiatives by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad’s team. Now the IMF is pushing the government to use its ‘window of opportunity’ to cut spending, relax foreign ownership rules and reduce the public sector workforce.
