The first phase of the Saudi anti-corruption campaign has come to an end, an official government Twitter account announced on 24 January. Those accused detainees who refused “financial settlements” were being referred to the Public Prosecution, it said. Even before then, the Ritz Carlton hotel in Riyadh was preparing to reopen to a more regular class of clientele in mid-February. Royal and VIP detainees who have still not signed plea bargain agreements, nor agreed to hand over money, are to be moved to Al-Hayer prison on the south-eastern outskirts of the capital over the next few weeks.
