Saudi Arabia: MBS’s Al-Ula tourism project

Before leaving for Asia (see below), MBS was in the far north-west of the kingdom, to inaugurate a string of projects being developed by the Royal Commission for Al-Ula (RCU). These include the Sharaan nature reserve, a resort designed by high-profile architect Jean Nouvel, and the establishment of the Global Fund for the Arabian Leopard (a critically endangered animal which is only occasionally seen in the mountains of Yemen, Oman and the UAE). Al-Ula is known for its archaeological sites, including the Nabataean ruins of Madain Saleh/Hegra, and beautiful scenery.
