Qatar: Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Al-Thani

Official PM FM Qatar Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Bin Jassim

Role: Prime minister and foreign affairs minister

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Al-Thani was appointed as foreign affairs minister in early 2016 and given the additional role of prime minister in March 2023, replacing Sheikh Khalid Bin Khalifa Bin Abdelaziz Al-Thani as PM.

The hard-working Sheikh Mohammed rose to global prominence during the Taliban’s reoccupation of Kabul in August 2021 and has consolidated that profile as a key go-between in the Gaza conflict.

His appointment as prime minister was seen as part of Qatar’s rethinking of its role following the 2022 Fifa World Cup, with Doha wanting to position itself as a leading regional player and intermediary.
