Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Al-Thani is Emir Sheikh Tamim’s younger full-brother. He first came to the attention of Qataris when he rode a horse up a steep ramp to the top of the stadium to light a cauldron during the opening ceremony for the 2006 Asian Games in Doha. It rained on the night and the horse staggered a couple of times; Mohammed’s parents were said to have not been fully warned of the risks involved.
