UAE/OMAN: Sharjah ruler visits Muscat

Sharjah Ruler Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al-Qasimi visited Muscat for a two-day official visit – the second Emirati ruler to make the journey in recent months, following a visit by Ras Al-Khaimah Ruler Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al-Qasimi in June.

Saudi King Salman: Visit to Neom

Saudi King Salman Bin Abdelaziz travelled from Jeddah to the new northwestern city of Neom on 1 September. He chaired a cabinet meeting in the city on 5 September. The ruler spent an extended period in Neom in 2020 and 2021.

It is almost a year since 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was arrested in Tehran for failing to adhere to Iran's strict dress code for women. She died in police custody on 16 September, prompting nationwide outrage which soon morphed into the "Women, Life, Freedom" protest movement. The Iranian government has been nervously preparing for the anniversary of Amini's death, by targeting protestors and their supporters.
