Saudi Arabia's MBS visits France

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman left for a state visit to France on 14 June, which will include talks with President Emmanuel Macron on 16 June and leading the Saudi delegation at the New Global Financial Pact summit on 22-23 June. In between, MBS will take part in the 19 June reception for Riyadh’s candidacy to host the Expo 2030 world fair – a project on which considerable resources have already been expended.

Amid a waning consensus over strategy, the Opec+ meeting in Vienna in early June broke up with Saudi Arabia making a unilateral output cut of 1m b/d, reflecting Riyadh’s determination to shape market forces and bolster prices. The UAE was also handed a higher production quota, but several other members were left unhappy at an unwelcome squeeze on their future production.

Germany’s largest bank Deutsche Bank has been pursuing bankruptcy proceedings against entities in Sweden and the Cayman Islands connected to Saudi-Ethiopian businessman Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al-Amoudi.
