The late Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al-Said was named as the recipient of the Gandhi Peace Prize for 2019 by India’s Ministry of Culture on 22 March. The award – decided by a jury chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi – was in recognition of how the late ruler “was a visionary leader whose twin policy of moderation and mediation in addressing international issues won him praise and respect across the globe.”
