Issue 980 - 31 Oct 2014 | 1 minute read

Human rights groups have called on Bahrain to drop criminal charges against Nabeel Rajab and Zainab Al-Khawaja. Rajab, head of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, was detained on 2 October. He appeared in court on 29 October, on charges that he insulted the interior ministry , but the case was adjourned to 2 November. He could receive a sentence of up to three years in jail, having only been released in May after a two-year term. Zainab Al-Khawaja, daughter of imprisoned Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja and sister of Maryam Al-Khawaja, who was also recently detained, is due to stand trial.
