Doha takes full control of QG1, highlighting increased capacities

Regional leaders’ efforts to reshape their key strategic industries was apparent in Qatar Petroleum (QP)’s announcement on 30 March it is to end its Qatargas 1 (QG1) joint venture with ExxonMobil and Total (both 10%), Marubeni and Mitsui (7.5%) as of 1 January 2022, once the 25-year agreements expire. The move to end foreign shareholdings in Qatar’s original LNG project is significant, reflecting Doha’s changing priorities and capabilities.
