Issue 1012 - 01 Apr 2016 | 1 minute read

Qatar has helped obtain the release of four Djiboutian prisoners of war held in Eritrea, with Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani said to have personally overseen the process. The four men were captured after a 2008 conflict between the two countries. Intensive meetings were held between Qatar and Eritrea’s President Isaias Afwerki in recent months – Afwerki was in Doha in early December and Emir Sheikh Tamim made a brief stop in Asmara on 18 December to visit the president there.
