There have been a series of largely peaceful protests in H1 11, although the level of violence in Sohar, the centre of Oman’s industrial sector, shocked many. Sultan Qaboos, who recently celebrated his 40th year in power, reacted quickly, announcing cabinet reshuffles, job creation packages and financial aid to certain sectors.
