Hamad Bin Khalifa: Neapolitan ambitions?

Issue 980 - 31 Oct 2014 | 1 minute read

Italian media have been linking Qatar Football Association head Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Bin Ahmad Al-Thani to a potential sale of Napoli football club. Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis is reported to have been in discussions with Qatari investors, though there are also reports that the deal – estimated to be worth €200m-€300m ($250m-$400m) – has slowed. Napoli is due to play against Juventus in Doha on 22 December, for the Supercoppa Italiana. Sheikh Hamad, who is from the so-called Ali branch of the Al-Thani, is also chairman of Qatar’s professional football league, the Qatar Stars League.
