Iran: IRGC commanders named as sensitive border province governors

President Ebrahim Raisi has appointed two local Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) commanders as governors of sensitive border provinces. Brigadier Abedin Khorram, a veteran of the IRGC’s war in Syria, has been named governor of East Azerbaijan, where tensions have recently been high with neighbours to the north.
