Kuwait/Saudi Arabia: Preacher under investigation for comments about actor

Saudi authorities are investigating a preacher for comments about the late Kuwaiti comedy actor Abdulhussain Abdulredha, who died in London on 11 August. Sheikh Ali Al-Rabieei tweeted that believers should not pray for Abdulredha because he was an “Iranian Shiite who died misguided”. English-language Saudi daily Arab News reported that the Ministry of Culture and Information had referred Al-Rabieei to the Copyright Infractions Committee for violating press laws. Al-Rabieei has deleted his tweet and apologised to Kuwaitis.
