Public protestors in Oman have scored a notable victory, with the government agreeing to cap petrol prices. The move followed a demonstration on 2 February, when locals called for prices to be frozen or wages to be increased. It was the first major display of public opposition since 2011 (GSN 897/4). Media reports suggested as many as 500 people took part in the protest outside the Ministry of Oil and Gas.
