The Central Bank of Oman said on 29 September that its board had approved five members for its High Sharia Supervisory Authority, and had nominated a secretary. Oman has been planning to establish a national sharia board for some time. Central Bank president Hamood Sangour Al-Zadjali was quoted in March as saying the it would be made up of sharia scholars, some of them Omani and possibly one or two experts from outside of Oman. He said the board would advise the central bank on sharia-compliant products and serve as a reference point for all Islamic financial institutions.
