Qatar defends arrest and detention of Talal Bin Abdelaziz

The continuing detention of Sheikh Talal Bin Abdelaziz Bin Ahmed Al-Thani has been defended by Qatari authorities, following an enquiry from United Nations special rapporteur on torture Nils Melzer in October 2020. Melzer and two UN colleagues had written to ask about the circumstances surrounding Sheikh Talal’s February 2013 arrest, why he was serving several prison sentences and why he had not been allowed to see his wife Asma Arian.
