The emir’s cousin, Sheikh Hamad Bin Abdullah Al-Thani, has reportedly made a generous donation to help with the upkeep of the Castle of Mey, the personal home of the UK’s late Queen Mother. The castle, in Caithness in the Scottish Highlands, was bought by the Queen Mother in 1953 after the death of her husband, King George VI, and is now a tourist attraction. According to Scotland’s The Press and Journal, Sheikh Hamad has been made vice-president of the Friends of the Castle of Mey, because of his donation.
