Qatar Holding (QH) is pouring millions of dollars into a new escalator for London luxury department store Harrods, as part of a wider refurbishment. The escalator, which will be unveiled on 4 November, will provide “opulent access to its seven retail floors”, according to Harrods. A spokesman for the store would not put a value on the project, but told GSN it represented a “multi-million” investment. The escalator is designed by architecture firm Make, and is inspired by the original 1930s architecture of the iconic store. The materials used will include British bronze-dipped cladding, Portuguese limestone and Italian and Slovenian marble walls, and the design includes giant high-definition video advertising walls.
