Qatar steps off rostrum as Iraq takes presidency

Qatar handed the rotating presidency of the Arab League to Iraq at the organisation’s summit in Baghdad – the first summit to be held in Iraq since 1990. President Jalal Talabani, a Kurd, will therefore be titular head of the Arab League – although it was Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki who led the Iraqi delegation to the 29 March meeting.
