Qatar: Tamim paves the way for elections in October 2021

After a very long wait, Qatar has finally set a date for Majlis Al-Shura (advisory council) elections. In an early November speech to the opening of the council’s 49th session, Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani said preparations were about to reach their “culmination”, for elections to be held next October. This follows the creation in November 2019 of a committee to organise elections, chaired by then prime minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser.
