Prince Bandar Bin Sultan Bin Abdelaziz has made a rare public ‘appearance’ with (aptly for a senior Al-Saud who for so long was identified with US policy) a letter to the editor published on 16 July in The Washington Post, criticising the 14 July deal on Iran’s nuclear programme. The prince – once dubbed ‘Bandar Bush’, as a long-running ambassador to Washington and former head of the National Security Council and General Intelligence Directorate – said the deal would wreak havoc in the Middle East. “Iran is a major player in the destabilisation of the region.
