The low-intensity conflict in Yemen is developing into another front in the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) crisis, as Saudi-owned media outlets and senior UAE diplomats claim Qatar is supporting insurgent groups fighting the Saudi-led coalition. UAE ambassador to Russia Omar Ghobash has claimed Qatar tipped off Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) fighters, enabling them to send suicide bombers to attack UAE forces. “We have had Emirati soldiers dying as a result of Qatari activities,” he told a BBC Hardtalk programme, broadcast on 20 July.
