Saudi-Soviet relations in interwar period

Saudi Arabia and the Soviet Union suspended diplomatic relations in 1939, and they were never resumed. Riyadh restored ties with Moscow and other former Soviet capitals only after the union dissolved, and, in the past two decades, relations have often been tense. At the time of the formation of Saudi Arabia, however, the bilateral relationship was far more favourable, leading to the Soviet Union being the first state to formally recognise Abdelaziz Bin Abdelrahman (Ibn Saud)’s kingdom in 1926.
