While PR firms have an important role to play, building relationships directly with foreign politicians and dignitaries remains a key part of Bahrain’s international relations, never more so than with ally Britain. Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, visited Manama in January, having been requested by Whitehall to promote Britain in Bahrain. According to the Bahraini press, Prince Andrew – who was also a dinner guest of King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa in London in 2013 – is set to open an exhibition in London on 16 May entitled “This is Bahrain”, intended to show a different side of Bahrain. He will also patronise a conference, titled “Bahrain Dialogue in London”, held the same day in the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster.
