United States: Email leak reveals Clinton’s more hawkish attiudes to Gulf allies

The publication by Wikileaks of emails from John Podesta, chairman of Hillary Clinton’s presidential election campaign, indicates some of the policy positions the Democrat candidate might adopt if she wins on 8 November. Their discussions confirm widespread suspicions that, if elected, Clinton is likely to take a more hawkish stance than President Barack Obama on some key Middle East issues. In one August 2014 email exchange, Clinton said the United States should put more pressure on some Gulf governments over their support for Islamic State (IS, Isil or Daesh).
