Prince Turki, the king’s son born in October 1971, had been deputy governor of Riyadh since February 2013. Before his appointment, he was commander of Squadron 92, 3rd air wing, at King Abdelaziz airbase in the eastern region, and led the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) in its periodic F-15 Red Flag exercises with the US Air Force. Turki has multiple business interests, something which may not make him popular with the public. He has been associated with a US Department of Justice (DoJ) investigation into whether Barclays made improper payments to win a banking licence in Saudi Arabia.
