A 95-year-old ayatollah and politician, Ahmad Jannati holds significant connections to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s founder, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, and the current Rahbar (Supreme Leader) Ali Khamenei.
Currently chairman of the Majlis-e Khobregan-e Rahbari (Assembly of Experts), he has maintained a notable presence in the Iranian political landscape since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. He has also been a dominant presence, for more than 30 years, in the Shoura-ye Negahban (Guardian Council).
