A renowned tactician who spearheaded asymmetric defence, Ahmadian succeeded Ali Shamkhani as head of the Supreme National Security Council in 2023. A member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) his whole career, little is known about Ahmadian’s private life, although insiders say he is a hardliner and loyal to the supreme leader.
