New Iranian foreign minister closely linked to IRGC

A key figure in President Ebrahim Raisi’s new government is foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has been controlled by more reformist elements in Iran’s complex division of power, Amir-Abdollahian is closer to conservative principalists gathered around Rahbar (Supreme Leader) Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
