Yemen: Side conflicts have undermined the main war

The Houthi coup in 2014-15 unseated the government in Sanaa and pushed Yemen into civil war, leading to military intervention from regional powers including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Iran.

The conflict has at times spread beyond Yemen's borders into neighbouring states, while inside Yemen the war has expanded into a complex web of interlinked battles involving groups such as Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and members of a fragmented anti-Houthi alliance – complicating efforts to counter the Houthis.
